Before & After the NYC Marathon

My full race recap is coming soon!  I’m just waiting on my race photos. In the meantime, here’s a look at the day before and after the race!

Friday night I got to attend a Runner’s World party with the Asics Blog Team!

Where I shamelessly took another selfie with Bart Yasso….

And got to meet Dean Karnazes!!!!

Halloween Saturday:

I caught a beautiful sunrise from our hotel room.

Jason and I had breakfast at The Plaza.

And did a shakeout run through Central Park on the marathon route!

I met back up with the Asics Team at the World Largest Selfie Stick!

Jason and I are the two little dots at the bottom!

And some blog team silliness!

For our pre-race dinner we went to Alfredo 100 with Becca and Shyla!

Hello pasta!!!

I also wrapped up my October miles.  This was a peak training month for me.

Monday: Post-Race…eat all the food.

I met back up with Becca and Shyla for a post-race, celebratory breakfast at Sarabeth’s!

Checked out Grand Central Station.

Had the yummiest lunch at Eataly!!!

Not only does Eataly have multiple restaurants, but it’s also a gorgeous market!

And, of course I just had to get some gelato!

It was also my first red cup from Starbucks!!!  Y’all, this means that Christmas is coming…woohoo!!!!

More CHOOSE JOY shirt pics came in!!!  100% of the proceeds were donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, so I’m sending a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone that ordered one!!!!!

I know this question is a day late, but what was the peak and pit of your weekend?

Is it too soon to get excited for Christmas?

What’s your favorite way to celebrate after a race?

Not too soon! I love Christmas and have already started watching the cheesy Hallmark Christmas movies.
The Team Asics perks look incredible! What scares me about the NYC marathon is that long wait at start. If you get a cushy ride/vip treatment it looks great!
I’m always amazed the Plaza isn’t packed for breakfast – or maybe I just always go earlier than the norm???? Great pics thanks for sharing.

    • JenChoosesJoy

I LOVE all of the Christmas movies!!!
The logistics for NY were similar to Boston. You get up super early and then sit around for a late start…not ideal, but totally worth it!
We said the same thing about The Plaza, but we were there super early!

  • Alaina @ The Simple Peach

It’s never too early for Christmas. I will probably start decorating soon. We have so much going on that I want to enjoy the house decorated for more than two weeks. Eataly is awesome! We went to the Chicago location last month and loved it. I like to celebrate a race with a cocktail and something delicious to eat! Can’t wait for full recap.

    • JenChoosesJoy

I completely agree! Decorating for Christmas takes a lot of work and you want to enjoy it for a while!

  • Tiffany @ The Chi-Athlete

What a fun time! I LOVE it when I get to meet up with running celebs! So many gorgeous pictures, and EATALY is my FAVE PLACE ON THE PLANET! We have one here in the Chi.:)

It’s too early for me to get excited for Christmas, yeah. I love taking my time this time of year and not rushing into a holiday that’s two months away.:P

    • JenChoosesJoy

I never knew there was an Eataly in Chicago until today! I’ll have to visit next time I’m there!

  • Desiree

I love Christmas, but my favorite is Thanksgiving. Love seeing your NYC pics. You are getting the full experience for sure. NYC is so fun to visit, especially around Christmas. My hubby actually just left for NYC this morning. He goes there for work a few times a month. I tagged along last Dec. After my marathon’s I always treat myself to a huge slice of cake. And you know I will be doing that this Sunday in Florida.

    • JenChoosesJoy

We were just talking about planning a Christmas trip to NYC! I would love to visit then.

  • TheHealthy75

Trick or treat was the peak of the weekend, my little man is a year and a half and he had so much fun! The pit was the weather :(

It is never to soon to be excited about christmas, at least now it is socially acceptable to listen to Christmas music.

Post run selfie! Shameful but true!

    • JenChoosesJoy

That is such an awesome age for Halloween!!!

  • Jess at Run Pink!

Enjoyed the pics! The hotel looks beautiful, how stinking amazing is it that you’re like a blogging celebrity hanging with the cool kids?!, the food looks so delish, and what y’all doing on the ground?! Lol no, it’s totally okay to get excited about Christmas! It’s my fav holiday! Your peak miles are stupid impressive woman. I barely tapped 200 for October. I kept my marathon training between 220-230/month due to my intense work schedule and family. I’m sure if I carved out any more running time my husband would divorce me and kid would call disownment ha!!! You seriously impress me Jen. I want to be like you when I grow up. 😉

    • JenChoosesJoy

I didn’t even try to play it cool. I geeked out so many times over the weekend!
We were “flat running” for the giant selfie camera….I was cracking up, because we looked so silly in front a big crowd!

  • Margaret @youngandrungry

It looks like you found all the best restaurants! The weather wasn’t ideal this weekend, but my half marathon was the peak! My favorite way to celebrate is nap first and then wine.

    • JenChoosesJoy

I’m with you on the post-race rest and wine!!!

  • RunToTheFinish

holy cow your miles are insane!!! Aren’t the Asics people wonderful? They really do it up right!!

    • JenChoosesJoy

That were SOOOOO nice to me!! I’m not even an Asics blogger and they let me tag along.

  • Sarah @ SarahRuns26

Are you part of the Asics blog team now? Eataly is on our short list of places that we need to go to since we didn’t make it there when we were in NYC for the marathon last year. It looks SO good! The Plaza hotel always reminds me of Home Alone! :) And no, never too early to get excited for Christmas!

    • JenChoosesJoy

I’m not an Asics blogger. They were just super awesome to me and let me tag along for the weekend!

  • Gretchen Braun

Looks like such a fun weekend! Glad that you enjoyed your trip to NYC! I can’t believe how many miles you run…insane! How do you avoid getting injured? I would love a post on your training plan/benefits of running really high mileage if you’re interested.. That would be really helpful to me, as I’m hoping to do a full next year.

Can’t wait to read your race recap :) And it’s never too excited for Christmas excitement..I’m listening to Christmas music already!

    • JenChoosesJoy

Most of those miles are easy-paced. I’ve read so many mixed reviews of high mileage running. Mostly, it just makes me happy to run a lot, lol!

      • Gretchen Braun

Makes sense!! I was just curious..thanks for answering jen :)

  • Beverly Blanton

I’ve been anxiously waiting on your NYC post. So glad you had a great weekend. Can’t wait to hear all about the race.

Peak: Super productive weekend — got caught up on a ton of work.
Pit: My furnace went out!! Boo!

Christmas: I’m already planning for xmas gifts and surprises, but we don’t get our tree and put out decorations until the first week of December!! I think I get just as excited as the kids as we countdown!!

After Race Celebration: Sushi and lots of snuggles with my kiddos. I rode the marathon high for a least a week post Indy Marathon.

    • JenChoosesJoy

Sushi and snuggles….that’s the best post-race game plan ever!!!

  • Jennifer

Congrats on your race! Peak of my weekend was watching NYC marathon and relaxing. Oh, and getting in my runs! Pit…realizing how expensive how renovations are!!! It is a little early for Christmas, but I’m not mad at anyone who enjoys celebrating a little early. After a race, I like to eat ALL the food and then rest.

    • JenChoosesJoy

Renovations are crazy expensive! I feel your pain!

  • Beth

The thought of all the amazing food I could eat pre- and post-race is enough to convince me to run NYC. Eataly is one of my favorite places, even if I’m not eating anything because I love browsing through all the imported Italian products. Looked like a great trip!

    • JenChoosesJoy

I could have spent the afternoon shopping in Eataly!

  • Jamie Whittendale

I LOVE CHRISTMAS! Never too soon to get in the holiday spirit :) Although Thanksgiving might be my favorite holiday of all! Can’t wait to read your race recap – fabulous job! :)

    • JenChoosesJoy

      Thanks so much!

  • Whitney

Definitely not too soon for Christmas excitement– Sirius channel 18 is already playing Holiday music!! :) If I am racing in Nashville and had a good race, I get a bushwacker from Broadway Brewhouse!

    • JenChoosesJoy

We have to get a bushwhacker together sometime soon!!!

      • Whitney

  • Angie @ Pace with Grace Blog

Looks like fun! Peak- Halloween with friends and family. Pit- yard work. I am okay with just sticking to getting excited about Thanksgiving. It will go by fast no matter what so just want to enjoy the holiday season.

    • JenChoosesJoy

I’m so glad you had a great Halloween!!!!

I LOVE Eataly….one of my favorite places in NY not necessarily because of the food which is good, but I just love all the levels and the markets and the energy of the place….they are opening one in LA pretty close to me… I doubt it can be the same as the one in NYC, but hopefully it will be close.. .. It is a little early for Christmas….I’m not ready to think about it….. post-race eating is the best!

    • JenChoosesJoy

I could have spent the afternoon shopping in there!

  • mary @ minutes per mile

that pasta looks so good! i want to run NYC!

    • JenChoosesJoy

Delish! You should definitely run it!

  • Natalie @

It was a hot mess, but should make for a good read, lol!

  • Robin Smith

Congratulations on your NYC marathon finish! How awesome! Looks like you enjoyed NYC – Eataly is a favorite!

    • JenChoosesJoy

      I had a blast!!!

  • bubblyrunner

I can’t wait to read your re-cap Jen! It’s never too soon to get excited for Christmas, but Thanksgiving is actually my favorite holiday so I’m trying to focus on that :) Favorite way to celebrate after a race is mimosa, obvi!

    • JenChoosesJoy

      BIG YES to mimosas!!!!!

  • Kristne

Are shirts still for sale? I want one!

    • JenChoosesJoy

They aren’t right now, but I’ll definitely sell them again in the near future!

  • Lauren

I’m so glad you went to Eataly!! It’s amazing!!! I hope you enjoyed NYC! I’m so sad the race is over, I think I’m going through post-marathon depression. My favorite way to celebrate is to sign up for another one!! hehe.

    • JenChoosesJoy

I always have the post-race blues and I just signed up for another race, too!

  • corrie

What an awesome trip! I am coming with next time! And I am in LOVE with Eataly! The hardest part for me there is always choosing 😉 Miss you!!

    • JenChoosesJoy

Miss you too!! I can’t wait to catch up!

  • Regina Mcwhirter

It is not too early to get excited for CHRISTmas! Thanksgiving is so fun too.
Post race favorite is looking forward to the next marathon. (Right now I’m trying to stay positive during injury with my next race in Feb). Soooooo many pics in the blog, great job!

  • Beata F

It was such an amazing experiance for me as my first marathon! I cant believe I am part of this amazing group of runners that have the courage to cross the finish line! I will cherish this race forever. My favorite was celebrating with my family and seeing how proud my six year old son was, that is priceless!

  • Loribeth Lee

Peak: watching Halloween (the classic horror movie!) with the hubby! Pit: no trick or treaters bc of the rain!
I need another 2 weeks and then I will be ready for Christmas!
I like to celebrate with a big soda or juice and some shopping!

  • Sue Tate

Looks like an amazing weekend!! And holy peak month is right! Wow, I’m impressed!

  • Karen @ Fit in France

Way too early to get excited for Christmas, but I did just realize it is 8 weeks away. Ouch.

  • ReadyAbout

Jason wins Most Thoughtful Husband.. EVER… – Anne V –

  • Christina @ The Athletarian

Oh so now I know. We all need a Jason in our lives – haha!! Can we clone him?? Looks like the trip of a lifetime! I love Eataly!

Much too soon to get excited for Christmas!!

Best way to celebrate = ALL. THE. FOOD! And lots of rest! :)
