Boobs and Balls

Friday night prep for my last long run before NYC!  13 miles.  Game plan: run 10 miles with friends and then run the Susan G. Komen 5k. (Defiance Fuel Water, Picky Bar, Cocogo (discount code: JENCHOOSESJOY), Garmin 620, GU)

Friday night went downhill fast.  If you’ve been reading for awhile, you know that Charlotte has been struggling with some neurological issues.  She got pretty sick and spent the night at the emergency vet.  She’s home resting now, but please keep her in your prayers!

Saturday:  Coffee was a MUST with our lack of sleep!

I was SO happy to join the Run 4 Others group for 10 miles! After a rough night, running with friends was just what we needed!!!

I threw on some pink and went to the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5k. (This is the boobs part of the title.)

It was a great event with a big turnout, live music, and lots of vendors!

Then I proceeded to eat all the food!

Tupelo Honey just opened near our house.  I ate my weight in fried okra!

I woke up thinking about all my awesome friends running the Marine Corps Marathon in DC!

I hopped on the treadmill to log some taper week miles.

And met Jason for breakfast afterwards.

We spent the afternoon cheering on the TN Titans…Titan Up! (The balls portion of the title.)

This photo is captioned: Sure I’ll smile for the camera, but I won’t stop watching the game!

Peak and Pit of your weekend? Peak: Spending the weekend at home with Jason! Pit: It breaks my heart to see Charlotte sick.

Who raced or ran long?  Share!

I hope Charlotte gets better soon! It is always heartbreaking to see your pets sick! Peak for the weekend – lots of sleep, good long run and the Royals made it to the World Series! Pit – there really wasn’t one, it was a good weekend!

I’m SO glad you had a great weekend!!!

  • Loribeth Lee

Hope your pup gets better! And hilarious title by the way! I must still be a 12 year old at heart because my humor is stuck in the 6th grade and things like that make me giggle! And we have a Tupelo Honey in Chatt and we used to go all the time bc they had all day breakfast and biscuits they brought to the table…..but ours stopped doing that so now we have new favorites for breakfast…………..Maple Street Biscuit Company and Bluegrass Grill! And I ran a 22 miler in Brentwood last week while we were on vacation in Nashville…………..love the hills in those neighborhoods!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

I’ll have to try Maple Street Biscuit next time I’m in town. I love Bluegrass Grill!
I’m so glad you enjoyed your time in Nashville!!!

Peak – awesome long run on Sunday…really gave me boost of confidence that my HM training is finally starting to pay off.
Pit – heavy rains on Friday and Saturday meant I had to cancel a run date with a new running friend. We’re going to try again this Saturday, but more heavy rain is forecasted:(
Have a great taper week! I’m so excited for you!!

Awe, I’m so sorry about Charlotte. I hope she gets better asap. That’s so hard. :( Andrew and I had fun in Vancouver. We pretended to be rich and famous for a night and stayed in a crazy swank hotel and ate fancy food and drank champagne all night long. It was bliss.

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

That sounds like an awesome weekend!!!

I’m so sorry about Charlotte! I hope she starts feeling better soon.

That’s awesome that you did the Susan G. Komen walk! I love seeing everyone decked out in pink for breast cancer awareness!

I had 18 miles on the schedule this weekend. I got in 17 before I ran out of time and then immediately headed over to do the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5k walk.

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

Way to get it done this weekend! It’s too funny that we had the same strategy for our long runs!

  • Kimberly Hatting

Sorry about your baby! I have three kids (two in college, and the third is in HS) and we became dog owners for the first time back in January (rescue dog). Now, I get it…this thing with dogs being not just a pet, but a MEMBER of the family. Hope she is doing better. And, best of luck in New York 😉

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

Thank you SO much for your sweet words!!!

  • http://laurainlou.wordpress.com Laura Olinger

Sorry to hear that Charlotte isn’t feeling her best. I’ll definitely pray for her. It is so hard to watch an animal suffer because you can’t say anything to comfort them.

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

      It’s such a helpless feeling!

  • Beth

Ran the Marine Corps Marathon this weekend; finished my second marathon with a 24 min PR to finish at 3:41. Still in shock with all, but the exhaustion in my legs reminds me how it’s worth it!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

      That’s an incredible PR…congrats!!!

  • https://bubblyrunner.wordpress.com bubblyrunner

Oh Jen I’m so sorry to hear about Charlotte. My heart breaks whenever Rusty isn’t well. They’re our babies! I’m glad you still had an awesome run the next day! And that fried okra looks amazing! I heart southern food.

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

      It’s the most helpless feeling!

  • AR

Sorry to hear about Charlotte! Hopefully she will get better soon! Sending good vibes!
Peak: Husband completed a 25K trail. I am very proud.
Pit: I stayed home correcting papers… But I went to the finish line to cheer and hug him. 😉

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

I’m sure he really appreciated seeing you at the finish line!!!

  • Katie West

So sorry about Charlotte. It is hard seeing our pets not doing well. Praying she is feeling better.

I ran mcm this weekend. I had a huge pr with a time of 3:21. It felt so good since I have been trying for a sub 3:30 for about 5 years! Hoping for a sub 3:20 in Boston. I love running mcm!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

3:21 is INCREDIBLE!!!!!! I am truly in awe!

  • http://www.pawsandpavement.com/ Sheena

Sorry to hear about Charlotte. It’s so hard to watch your sick puppy. I hope she starts feeling better soon!

  • https://mittenrunner.wordpress.com Bianca @ Mitten Runner

Always so heart breaking seeing a pet go through some tough times :(. I hope Charlotte feels better soon! I don’t know what I’d do if my dog was sick, so *hugs* to you!

Totally unrelated note – I’m so jealous of your eyelashes haha! So pretty!

I ran the Great Turtle Half Marathon Trail Run on Mackinac Island here in Michigan on Saturday. It rained (so muddy!) and was more hilly than expected. I snagged a PR for the half distance though, so I’m thrilled! :)

  • Sue Tate

Ohhh, I’m so sorry about your pup! I hope she is feeling better soon! That DC shot is pretty amazing…and right before all of the construction started. It’s a mess now as you probably saw a few weeks ago!
