Capitol Steps Workout

The Brentwood Breakfast Club went up to Nashville for our weekly run!

We had a blast running through the city.

I had the prettiest acai bowl for lunch.

I joined James Crumlin’s Capitol Steps Workout group that evening!

Nashville folks: These workouts are free and James coaches them twice a week.  Follow him HERE to learn more!

Jason joined in on the fun, too!

I ran these steps WAY too many times.  It kicked my butt in the best way.  This was such an awesome workout and group of people.  I will definitely return!

After two great workouts, we had some big as yo face taco salads on the Baja Burrito patio.

Jason had a super duper early morning flight.  Of course, we all woke up, but Caroline and I lingered in bed for a bit.

I went to the gym and logged 8 miles, rode the spin bike for a bit and lifted some weights.  I really tried to keep it relaxed so I’ll have a good long run this weekend.  My post-workout smoothie hit the spot…Cocoa Banana from the Juice Bar.

I spent my afternoon at the dermatologist trying to take care of my face.  Not only am I battling aging, but I’m still getting breakouts.  :(

Pre-long run dinner: Caesar salad, veggie burger, and some fries.  I don’t eat fries often, but my craving was legit!

Saturday, August 22nd is the last day to enter the Always Be Joyful tank GIVEAWAY!  Just visit my Instagram page, find this pic, and follow the directions…super simple!

What are you most looking forward to this weekend?

What are your favorite taco (salad) toppings?  Beans, rice, corn, mushrooms, cheese

Do you still battle breakouts?  Are they worse in the summer?

Did you crosstrain this week?  What did you do?

That looks like a super fun workout! And yummy foodies!

Salsa and avocado = my fave taco salad topping!

Side note: I totes hear you on the aging and breakouts. Since moving to Chicago from Texas, my face and hair have flipped out, and I”m trying to find the right skin care that wont break me out. My hair stylist says “Pretty people can’t live in Chicago.”:)

No cross-training this week, but the base is building and I’m getting back into full training mode this week. HOORAY!

    • JenChoosesJoy

I totally forgot to type avocado…so good!
What’s up with Chicago?!!! That’s not cool at all!

  • Suzy Hutchins

The decaf coffee quote at the top absolutely kills me. LOVE it. I totally have zits, and I’m 37. It’s so lame! I also have this weird splotchy skin problem and I’ve been to the dermatologist a zillion times and tried a zillion creams but I think it’s a hormonal thing, so I need to deal with the problem from the inside out, I suppose. I’m just not interested in giving up coffee or alcohol, lol. I’d rather just wear a foundation with good coverage. 😛

My dermatologist reminded me to limit my gluten and dairy intake. :( I’m already a vegetarian. At some point it’s not worth it, lol!

      • AmandaM

It’s sad that I think it’s true because eliminating gluten and dairy totally made me stop breaking out. And I’m also vegetarian! Ah well????

  • Cathy Mores

What a fun workout — those stairs look serious! :) I totally busted up at the decaf coffee quote… I couldn’t agree more! I was most looking to my long run this weekend (knocked it out already this morning) and enjoying the awesome weather we’re having here. I did some awesome XT this week — my trainer has come up with some killer workouts and they are so fun! It’s a nice change from all the running. :) Have a fabulous weekend!! Cheers!

Way to knockout your long run!!! It’s the best feeling!

  • bubblyrunner

Fave toppings: black beans, salsa, avocados. I still get breakouts too, and I’m 31–they’re definitely worse in the summer, but I feel like I shouldn’t have to deal with them at all now that I’m in my 30’s!

    • JenChoosesJoy

Exactly! Aren’t we supposed to outgrow breakouts?!!

  • Amanda B @ Cupcakes and Miles

Mushrooms on a taco salad?! Yum! Why didn’t I think of that! I love corn and avocado on mine.

And yeah, I still get breakouts! It’s so much being an adult! 😉

    • JenChoosesJoy

Yes!! I totally forgot to type avocado!

  • Richelle Winston

    Love your pictures!

Surprisingly I’m looking forward to my long run tomorrow (only an hr lol). I so envious of your running group l, my town is too small to have one.

I like to mix some plantains and tomatoes on my taco salad.

Breakouts ???? I find that sugar and dairy make my skin breakout bad. When I’m on whole30 my skin looks great, but summer is definitely the worst.

I am loving the Nike trainer app for cross training and core work

    • JenChoosesJoy

Groups are a big help to long runs!!
I hope you have a great run!!!!

  • Kim Shomaker

I ran my longest run this am . . 7 miles ! Yay!! I’m training for 1/2 marathon. Favorite toppings would be black beans and corn and avacodo! ???? and yes breakouts mostly around my chin. I try to always run with a clean makeup free face. . But sometimes I’m able to run after work, and that’s when the makeup causes breakouts. I really need to start taking the makeup remover wipes on those days. And on non running days I do 45-60 mins of PiYo or just some free weights at home.

    • JenChoosesJoy

That is so awesome…congratulations on your run!!!
I’m with you, I never wear makeup for morning runs, but evening runs are different.
      I love Piyo!

  • Jen

I’m 36 and still have acne, awful! Plus I’m fairskinned so I scar. I get a facial once a month to help, but it sucks! I have tobsay your skin looks beautiful in Periscope!

    • JenChoosesJoy

It’s just not fair is it?! Thanks!!

  • Sandra Laflamme

I haven’t done a good steps workout in a long time! Such a hard workout but you feel soooo good and strong when you are done! Awesome!

    • JenChoosesJoy

You’re so right!! It kicked my butt but I felt great after!

  • Alaina @ The Simple Peach

I love that your “I try to keep it easy” consists of 8 miles, spinning and weights. I got rained out on my long run yesterday after 5.5 miles so I had to finish on the treadmill. 18 miles done! It’s still raining but we are going to a wine tasting with friends later! Woohoo!

    • JenChoosesJoy

18 miles definitely calls for lots of wine!!!

  • gbena

45 and i still get breakouts around my chin/neck area. summer is much worse for me.
