My Boston Certificate Arrived!

I’ll have what she’s having…

I met up with friends for an early 6 miler…

followed by 3 more solo miles.  Never miss a Monday!

For dinner I made vegan quesadillas and these Chipotle Roasted Sweet Potato Wedges.  I’ll post the recipe soon…we loved them!IMG_5003.JPG

Track Tuesday!

My workout:

4 mile warmup and drills
7 x 800m (1:30 rest) Goal pace: 3:31.  I hit my numbers, but I felt like it took more effort than usual.
Actual splits: 3:30, 3:31, 3:29, 3:30, 3:29, 3:29, 3:24
1 mile cool down

Here’s our post-800’s sweaty pic!

To celebrate finishing our 800’s, we went to the Juice Bar!

I got a deep tissue sports massage from Robin Frazier at Franklin Massage Center.  How fun is this?!  It was Katie’s birthday!!

Wednesday: Happy Hump Day!

I met up with Jenn and Dave to run the 6 mile loop through Percy Warner Park and then 2 more solo miles.  1,050 ft elevation gain!

Before bed, I had whipped up a jar of Banana and Nut Butter Overnight Oats!!  I love that you just add the ingredients to a jar, shake, and refrigerate.  BOOM…yummy breakfast!  I’ll post the recipe soon.

When I got out of my car at Whole Foods, I heard baby birds.  I realized they were coming from the spare tire on the back of a bronco….

Look at the baby birds!!!  Like a crazy person, I stood by the truck waiting on the owner.  I wanted to make sure they knew about the birds, but they never came out of the store. :(

When I got home, my Boston Marathon Finishers Certificate was in the mailbox!!!!!  I’m going to get it framed with my medal and bib.  I never keep medals, but this whole experience was special.

What should I have done about the baby birds?

Are you an overnight oats lover?  Favorite toppings?  Do you eat yours hot or cold?

What was your speed workout this week?

Have you framed a medal?  Which one?

I haven’t framed a medal before. I have all of mine in a box in my closet. More that I don’t know what to do with them than anything else.

I’ve never done overnight oats. Actually I have never eaten them cold before either, maybe I should try that because I just can’t do warm oats when it is so hot outside!

I’m a big hot oatmeal lover, but it’s tough when it’s so hot out!

You are so sweet to have waited for the Bronco owner to come out. Since they never did, to answer your question what should you do: Send the birdies a prayer, and then imagine that perhaps the driver reads your blog and is now driving around with a sign that says “Baby Birds on Board!” How cute would that be?

I’m newish to running so my speed accomplishment was yesterday- I set out to run 3 miles. I wanted my last mile to be faster than my middle mile and it was! Woo!

I love fast finish runs!! They always boost my confidence and teach me to pick it up when I’m tired.

Love love love overnight oats. I eat them year round! I did a 4 mile tempo run on Tuesday in 95% humidity which was more of a test of survival than anything else… hopefully will start incorporating track workouts next week. YIKES! And I’ve never framed a medal but will absolutely be keeping my Boston one (I still haven’t received my certificate :( womp womp ) Hope you have a fabulous day!!

Tempo runs are my toughest workout. Great job!!!

I have been wanting to try overnight oats but haven’t yet. I will have to get on that! I’m thinking cold in the summer would be a good way to have them! That’s really nice of you to wait- I think you did what you could and I would hope that if you heard them, the owner would have also and maybe just didn’t want to disturb them? They obviously made it that far! Sending a little prayer for the birdies :-) I have not framed a medal before but think your Boston award and medal definitely warrants it!!

That was my thought! They’ve made it this far, so maybe that tire is working for them. :)

I don’t know if this counts as speed work, but I did hill repeats with my local running club yesterday! I love the idea of framing your certificate and medal. That’s definitely a special weekend you’ll always want to remember! How cool is it that you got 4000th female!??! I love when that happens :)

I’ve always heard that hills are speed work in disguise!

Looks like a great day! I am an overnight oats addict. Eat them hot with chia, flax seeds and blueberries :)

      I LOVE chia seeds!!

My parents bought a plaque with my race photo and time on it when I ran my very first marathon when I was 19. I kept my Boston medal, and my ultra trophy but all the other race medals I just either let my kids play with them or I wouldn’t take the finishers medal at all. The baby birds situation is so upsetting! They’re so cuuuuute!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

I can’t believe you ran your first marathon at 19…so impressive!!

Jen, I love overnight oats! In the winter, I do like to warm them up a bit; it seems kind of odd, especially at first, eating oats cold, you know? I’ve gotten used to it now, though, and in the summer it’s great to have something cool yet filling. Um, I did a sort of progression run this week…the weather is killing me. I’ve always thought about doing a shadowbox with the first medal from each “meaningful” distance I’ve run: my first 5K, half and full marathon. Maybe after we move? HA! I’ve been thinking about this for awhile! Those birds are so cute…wonder how long the truck had been there? Weird!

You have a lot on your plate right now! I hope everything is going smoothly!! ????

  • Beverly Blanton

Can’t wait to try your overnight oats recipe. Looks so yum!! Those little birds are so cute!! I hope they make it. Congrats again on Boston!! What a HUGE accomplishment.

      Thank you!!!

I’m not sure what I would have done about the birds. I know what I would like to do, but I’m not sure if it’s what I would actually do.

I have never tried overnight oats, but you make it sound super easy. I think I’ll take a stab at it when you post the recipe.

And, I’ve never framed a medal, but I think I’m going to get our WDW Marathon medals and bibs framed. You know cuz it was our first! :)

    • jenchoosesjoy

I wish I had saved my first marathon medal!

  • Melissa

-I would have waited too, because the likelihood the driver knew they had a traveling nest is probably slim. :)
-No speed workout this week, but I did do hills twice! Which is 2 more times then I usually do them, LOL!
-I have a plaque in our home office that says “races” it has two little hooks to hang bibs and a big hook for medals.
That had to be exciting to get your Boston goodies!! :)

Hills are speed work in disguise!

I’m glad you’re keeping your Boston award…what an experience to remember!! I have some framed medals from my college career Big 12 Championship races. I always felt silly hanging medals
for road races because I don’t feel like a “real” athlete anymore (which is really goofy, I know) but qualifying for Boston was one of the hardest things I’ve done so I keep that medal in sight to remember what it feels like to be hungry for a goal and chase after it!

I probably would have done the same with the birds. At least you tried!!
