Weekend Wrap-Up

It’s time for another weekend wrap-up!!

Before my long runs, I love long walks to the coffee machine. (@demiandco)

I met up with the Fleet Feet Fall Marathon training group…

And paced for 17 miles!  It was still hot, but this was the lowest humidity of the summer…glorious!!

Jason had cold mango waiting on me in the fridge…the perfect post-run pick-me-up!

My in-laws were in town and we went to a steakhouse for dinner.  This veggie plate is proof that it’s so good to be a vegetarian (even at a steakhouse)…yum!  Roasted mushrooms, thai spicy green beans, grilled asparagus, and truffle mashed potatoes.

Miss Charlotte spent the day getting groomed and playing at doggie daycare.  She was tuckered out!

It’s Sunday Funday…be a bundle of JOY!

An empty early morning gym session always makes me happy!

Since, I’m training for the NYC Marathon, I had to listen to “Empire State of Mind” for 8 recovery miles.

@caitlinbridgeman asked me to post a slow motion version of this video!  Be kind about my form.  Like everyone else, I’m working on it.  For the last 6 months, I’ve been working on picking up my feet.  It still feels awkward, but it’s getting easier.  By the end of a race, I always look like I’m speed walking with both feet on the ground…lol!

I met Jason for a morning hike around Radnor Lake…beautiful!

And we saw lots of turkeys and turtles!

I have been obsessed with the skittle salad at Wild Ginger, so we went for lunch!

And, we ended our Sunday Funday with some patio time!

What are you working to correct in your form?

Did you race or long run this weekend?  Share!

Peak and Pit?  Peak: Gorgous low-humidity weather!  Pit: With family in town, I was a bad blogger and forgot to take pictures…doh!

ok I LOVE ME LONG WALKS but if they are to the coffee machine? then that damn machine is too far away :-)

    • JenChoosesJoy

LOL!! Sometimes the walk from my bedroom to the kitchen feels too long!

      • squib

I tried really hard to convince my husband that we needed a coffeemaker in the bedroom. He wasn’t buying it. I think he’s just impractical! : )

I am obsessed with a salad I had on Saturday, an antioxidant spinach salad with kiwi, strawberries, blueberries, dried cranberries, feta , and chicken (hold the dressing and candied walnuts), so simple and delicious!! Why are salads so much tastier when someone else makes them?!
-I am working on not holding my shoulders up to my ears. I have to tell myself take a deep breath and drop those shoulders!
-My long run was Sunday… 10 miles! :)
-Pit:It kinda took me a little longer than normal to feel good after my long run, I blame the humidity. Peak: Saturday lunch with girlfriends ( w/ said salad..yum!) and my daughter did her first lemonade stand, so she could earn money for a new doll! ( proud mama here!)

    • JenChoosesJoy

I love fruit in my salads!!!
It sounds like you had an awesome Saturday!! I’d be a proud mama, too. :)

  • Jennifer

I am trying to increase my cadence. Definitely helps to pick up speed and I don’t feel as tired. I had a 12 mile run on Saturday. Did not go as well as I would have liked, but I finished. Need to work on my pre-long run fueling. Always a challenge. Thinking I might need a multivitamin or something. As a vegetarian, do you take one? I’m a veggie too and worried that I’m not balancing my diet correctly. Peak…amazing weather this weekend. Pit…very tired legs on my long run.

    • JenChoosesJoy

I take a daily prenatal vitamin. I think it’s pretty similar to a multivitamin. B12 really helps me! If you haven’t had your blood work checked, a lot of vegetarians have low b12.

Looks like a fun weekend and awesome long run! Love all your smiles in the group picture!
Just a 10k for me on Saturday before birthday festivities. We had a great time out on the lake. Pit of my weekend was not feeling the best Sunday morning.
    Have a great day!

    • JenChoosesJoy

I’ll bet you were worn out Sunday! Hopefully you’re feeling better today. :)

Your form looks great to me! I’m really super rotational when I run and by the end of the race it looks like I’m cross-country skiing. But when I was doing track work last week, a man in his sixties talked to me about marathon training (he ran 2:32 in his fifties!!!) and gave me some great pointers. And of course I asked him about my form and he said it wasn’t too bad, but that if any of us concentrate on anything, it’s that we need to run tall. Head up, chest open, shoulders back. I slouch. 😛

    • JenChoosesJoy

2:32 in his 50’s!! I would definitely take his advice!

i’m always trying to tweak my arm form! for some reason my right arm doesn’t swing as far back as my left. i’ll have to try that salad — it looks awesome

    • JenChoosesJoy

      It’s so good!

Yum, I love mango after a hot run! How do you like the Launch 2’s in comparison to your Saucony’s? I alternate between the Triumph ISOs and the Ride 7’s, but I’ve heard good things about the Launch.

    • JenChoosesJoy

I have loved the launch! I’m always nervous to try a new show on a long run, but they felt great! They actually feel very similar to the kinvara 5…just a little more shoe. I’m not sure if id wear the launch for speed work.

Speaking of form…I have just recently be considering hiring a coach to go run with me a couple of times individually to watch my form and give me some help….I don’t think I pick my feet up enough among other things….

    • JenChoosesJoy

I went to a good form class. They videoed us running and played it back frame by frame and analyzed everything. It was very helpful!

      • [email protected]

Thanks!! Didn’t know they have form classes! Will look into it!

  • Meredth @ ImRunningWithErasers

Right now I’m working a lot on cadence. My goal is around 170-180 steps per minute! I had a 14 mile long run this weekend, and it went super well! Finally the humidity was down in Chicago and there was actually a decent breeze! PS that mango looked so good, now I want to go get some!

    • JenChoosesJoy

When the weather is nice, Chicago is a gorgeous city and one of my favorite places to run!!

      • Meredth @ ImRunningWithErasers

Me too! It is the best city :)

  • AmandaM

Peak – Saturday AND Sunday running with friends!! The best.

Pit – hmmm… was frustrated that Barnes and Noble didn’t have the book I wanted (and of course HAD to have right away) and I had to wait to order it online. Not a bad pit – if that’s as bad as it gets, I’ll take it :)

    • JenChoosesJoy

Congrats on a great weekend of running! Don’t you love it when our “pit” is a first world!

  • Running ‘N’ Reading

Jen, I’m so glad you enjoyed your time with family and had a great training run with the group! Cheers to low humidity; that is always a blessing this time of year. Lots of peaks from the weekend – a PR at the race on Saturday, getting settled in to our new home; the only pit was probably the little bit of rest I got – ha! I need to work on that. Hope your Monday has gone well!

    • JenChoosesJoy

      Congrats on your PR!!!!

  • Amanda B @ Cupcakes and Miles

I guess I’d say my peak was a nice relaxing weekend; my pit was that it rained all weekend.

I didn’t run this weekend. At all. On account of not feeling well.

And, I’m working to correct my posture.

    • JenChoosesJoy

      I hope you’re feeling better!!!:)

  • Sarah @ SarahRuns26

Taking photos is my downfall! I’m the WORST with that!

    • JenChoosesJoy

I try to be more mindful but it’s so easy to forget!

  • Caitlin Bridgeman

Thank you so much! I’m a newer runner and am trying to keep my form in check. Any opportunity to observe more experienced runners I’ll jump at.

    • JenChoosesJoy

I hope it helped!! Have an awesome day!????

  • Cecilia Beiras-Davis

    Big Congrats… Love it 😉
