Weekend Wrap-Up

After last weekend’s terrible long run, I was nervous to pace my Fleet Feet group again.

Thankfully, I had a great run!!!

Jason and I celebrated with smoothies at The Juice Bar!

I came home to the cutest stationary from Chicfetti in the mail…love it!!

My Grandparents were celebrating their 65th Wedding Anniversary, so we drove down to visit with them.  Isn’t it incredible?!!

There are no words to tell you just how much my Gran means to me.  I LOVED spending the afternoon with her!!!

Sunday Funday!

Like most Sunday’s, I did an early morning run at the gym.  I made sure to Scope right beforehand in the empty gym. If you’re on Periscope…you can find me at @JenChoosesJoy.  I had a nice, relaxed run!

Met Jason for breakfast.  I think I needed some more fruit!

And we went for a morning hike at Radnor Lake.

I saw this wine bag in the grocery!

Came home to edit my next YouTube video and my Macbook Air ran out of disc space for the millionth time.  So, I sucked it up and bought a new Macbook Pro!

I’m going to miss my little Macbook Air.  The new big boy Pro is in need of a Choose Joy decal.

Good news: new laptop
Bad news: it’s estimating 10 hours to transfer data from my old computer to my new one
Solution:  Champagne on the Bricktops patio

Thankfully, Jason is sharing his computer so I can write this blog post.  If it has errors, I apologize.  It’s so strange writing on someone else’s laptop.

BIG CONGRATS to @nanstagram28 on winning the Always Be Joyful tank!  Thank you to everyone that entered!

Are you a Saturday or Sunday long runner? Why?  In TN, almost everyone does a Saturday long run.  Maybe it’s because of Sunday church in the bible belt.

Do you get excited about new technology? Intimidated?  I’m always overwhelmed when I have to learn to use a new computer or phone.

Who raced or ran long? Share!

I walked long this weekend – – can we split this? I will take a coffee you can take the miles :-)

    • JenChoosesJoy

      Long walks count too!!!

  • Erica House

Sat long runs! Love getting it over with and having an extra day to complete in case of bad weather/extreme laziness :)

    • JenChoosesJoy

I’m with you…I love getting it over with so I can do what I want with my weekend!

  • Melissa

-I usually do my long runs on Sundays because I work every other weekend but I go in a little later on Sunday’s which gives me time to run.
-New technology intimidates me. I’m not a technical person. I have been in need of a new cell phone for over a year and still can’t pull the trigger. LOL
    – I ran an easy 5 miles Sunday. I was a little off last week and fighting a bug, so I went easy/lazy most of the week, :)
Huge Congrats to your Grandparents on 65 years! :)

    • JenChoosesJoy

Hopefully the extra rest paid off and you’re feeling better this morning!!

  • Rachel… rcaroline26

Always enjoy a good blog post from you (which is all of them that you post :) ) I hope your data from your old computer transferred safely and in faster than 10 hours! Jez, you must have a lot is right! I like doing long runs on Sundays, but in some cases they need to get pushed to Saturdays or even Fridays. I feel like if I do it on Sunday, Monday makes for the perfect rest day 😀 You look so strong in all of your running pictures so if you were struggling no one would be able to tell! Have a great week Jen, i’m sure you will hear from me again, I love following you on instragram, I get good motivation for my own runs and workouts. Hopefully in the future we can run into each other at a similar race! hey, you never know !

    • JenChoosesJoy

Thank you SO much for all of your sweet words of encouragement! They mean the world to me!!
      I hope you’re enjoying a happy Monday/rest day!!!

Saturday! And then Sunday I can relaaaaaaaaaaax.

I thought I was cool with new tech until I tried a phone that wasn’t an iPhone. Worst 36 hours of my adult life. Took it back for a new iPhone and could breathe again. Sounds overly-dramatic – is totally true.

I did my longest run to date on Saturday, in an attempt to work up to a half-marathon, which in itself is an attempt to start training for a half-Ironman.

Thanks for your awesome, consistent posts! Always a great read with my morning coffee :)

    • JenChoosesJoy

I’m totally sharing in the drama! No just keep reminding myself that these are first world problems, lol!
Congrats on your longest long run!!!????????????

  • Jamie Whittendale

All about Saturday long run – that way I have the rest of the weekend to enjoy ! Long run of 16 miles… slowly but surely building back up those long run miles :) My grandparents are celebrating their 64th anniversary next month – totally crazy!!! Happy anniversary to yours :) Have a fabulous day!

    • JenChoosesJoy

Congrats on your long run and to your grandparents! May we be as blessed as them!!!

  • Whitney

I love that stationary!! And where did you find that boo’s wine bag?? So cute!

    • JenChoosesJoy

The wine bag is at the Fresh Market…too cute!!

  • corrie

Yaya for great long runs and your beautiful new computer! Also, your grandparents are such an inspiration and your gran is the CUTEST! Can’t wait to see you tomorrow!

    • JenChoosesJoy

My gran makes me look tall!
I can’t wait to catch up!!!

  • bubblyrunner

Definitely a Saturday long runner–Sunday’s are for mimosas! I’m definitely intimidated by new technology, or just technology in general. I don’t get it!!!

    • JenChoosesJoy

I’m taking a break from setting up my new laptop right now. Well…more like procrastinating, lol!

  • gbena

Saturday long runs, church on Sunday :) i love new technology BUT i am very intimidated by it the older i get. takes me longer to figure things out. if you have a second can you tell me what shoe you prefer to run on the treadmill in or do you not have one your prefer over another. i’ve done so many runs lately on my treadmill that i’m wondering if my knee/hip pain is from that and maybe my kinvara’s not being the right shoe for a treadmill. i know i probably should take a day trip to Nashville to get professionally fitted by Fleet Feet but just thought i’d ask your opinion.

    • JenChoosesJoy

New technology never feels intuitive to me.
I typically run shorter distances on the treadmill so I’m less particular about my shoes. That said, I am loving the brooks launch 2 right now and I’ve been wearing them more than any other shoe.

  • Jimbo Gray

Ah, Mrs. Henry (hello from Fayetteville) A long run (for me) 10.6 miles Saturday.

    • JenChoosesJoy

I had such a great time in Fayetteville on Saturday!!!
Congrats on a great weekend run! :)

  • Victoria Calderon

Isn’t it funny how foreign someone else’s laptop feels?! I ran 8 miles this weekend in preparation for my Sept. half! Happy to be chugging along :-) I usually switch it up between Saturday or Sunday depending on my weekend plans, but Sundays seems to be the new norm!

    • JenChoosesJoy

Youre so right!! I couldn’t get the hang of using a mouse, lol!
Congrats on a great long run!!!

  • Angie @ Pace with Grace Blog

I am a Saturday long runner. Sundays I like to keep things more easy and restful when it comes to my runs. I think its a mental thing in preparing for another busy work week.
I get both excited and intimidated with new technology. I like expanding my horizons but it can also be frustrating until you get the hang of it. I’ve heard good things about the Pro.

    • JenChoosesJoy

I like to think of my Sunday’s as a day of rest, too! I usually end up running, but it’s on my own terms.
Fingers crossed the new laptop will work out!

  • Running ‘N’ Reading

Congrats on the new laptop!! New toys are THE BEST! I need a new computer so badly…ugh. One of these days! I’m so glad you had a great run on Saturday; this weather is fantastic! I had a crazy storm run on Saturday, so I had to cut it a little short; I’ve always done my long runs on Saturdays, unless there is some SERIOUS scheduling conflict. Hope your Monday is going well!!

    • JenChoosesJoy

      Happy Monday to you, too!!!

  • Allegra

Sunday long runner, but I’m travelling now so everything’s different!
Love getting new technology, but it definitely takes time to figure it all out. Plus it is always a little sad saying goodbye to the old ones.
I Ran Reykjavik Marathon on Saturday. It was such an incredible experience. Iceland is such a beautiful country :)

    • JenChoosesJoy

      Wow!!! Congrats on your race!!!

  • Laura Olinger

I prefer Saturday long runs. It’s how I trained for my first half marathon, and so I guess I the routine stuck. I’ve tried Sunday long runs but I prefer having that as an easier day so I can start Monday out strong!

    • JenChoosesJoy

I’m with you, I enjoy a relaxed Sunday!

  • Beata F

I like saturday long runs so I can just enjoy my Sunday with my family. I love new technology!! it was a first 15 miler for my last weekend, I loved it!

    • JenChoosesJoy

Woohoo!!! Congrats on a great run!!

  • Janessa

I prefer Saturday long runs but usually every other Sunday from July to November my long runs are on Sunday (road race series). I struggle so much on those weekends because I long run then feel like I have the next day to relax. Wrong! lol I need an extra weekend day.

    • JenChoosesJoy

I bet we ALL would love another weekend day!!!

  • Emily Walters

I usually run long on Saturday, but totally punted my planned long run this past Saturday. I couldn’t make it happen. Le sigh. I like running long on Saturday because it’s just such a great way to start the weekend. Plus, I love leaving Sunday Funday open as a family day. I am envious of your new laptop. We are contemplating purchasing a MacBook Air, but I wonder if we should think about going Pro instead. I’m sure you’ll get adjusted quickly!

    • JenChoosesJoy

I love the Air!! After 5 years and a ton of blog videos and pics, it just couldn’t support the space and speed that I needed. I’m sad to give it up.

      • Emily Walters

I’ve just started my own little blog and this makes me wonder…good food for thought!

  • Taking the Long Way Home

I’m laughing about the 2 pups peeking through the window in your photo with the new computer! Awww….

I wish I could be a Saturday long run runner, but I work every other Saturday, so 99% of the time I do them on Sunday.

    • JenChoosesJoy

Weekend working is the pits. I’m impressed you’re still able to get it done on Sunday…you rock!!!

  • Amanda B @ Cupcakes and Miles

Ooh! I love getting new technology!

I’m a Saturday long-runner, but after being out of town most of this past week for work, I pushed my long run to Sunday, and just ended up doing it (all 10 miles) on the treadmill.

    • JenChoosesJoy

My husband loves it, too! I wish I did, but it always stresses me out.
Way to get your long run done on the treadmill!!!

  • Suzy Hutchins

65 years? FRIGGING LOVE IT. And nice job getting that long run in. I’m so glad it was better than last week’s!

    • JenChoosesJoy

      Thank you!!!

  • cheryl

I am a Saturday long runner because of church, I play piano/keys on the music team and have EARLY practice. This week I bumped my long run to Monday because I raced on Thursday. It was an awful long run, I became dehydrated, so yuck. I hope I can mentally bounce back!
Congrats to your Grandparents–such great role models. My parents just had their 50th.
I get WAY Stressed out about new technology, and my hubby is in the business and he is always upgrading our stuff. Luckily I have 3 teenager/tweens around to help me!!!

  • Meghan Matejka

I usually run my long run on Sundays though I sometimes change it due to my schedule. I really need to get a new laptop! We were checking a couple out at Costco this past weekend and I can’t wait!

  • Sarah @ SarahRuns26

I end up doing my long runs on Sundays when I have to work on Saturday mornings. I’m not willing to start a long run after noon on a Saturday! I’d rather run Saturday mornings though! Fortunately Lane is great with technology so he takes care of most of my tech stuff so I don’t have to worry about it!

  • Abby

    Congrats on the new computer.
I would love a new one as I am tethered to an old desktop.
