Weekend Wrap-Up

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!!! I was registered to run Rock ‘n’ Roll Virginia Beach this weekend, but made a last minute decision to stay in Nashville  :)

Friday night long run prep… (Amphipod, huma gel, GU, Picky Bar, Cocogo (Discount code: JENCHOOSESJOY), Garmin 620, Endurolytes)

Pasta dinner!

Christi Beth and I called each other the night before to coordinate our outfits…not.

My NYC training schedule called for 18 miles.  I’m helping a Fleet Feet group train for Chicago and their schedule had a 20 miler.  So…20 it was!

We ran all over Nashville!

And boy was it hot!!!

Sweet thang juice (watermelon, green apple and pineapple) really hit the spot.

I was craving salt, so I had a taco salad and ALL of the tortilla chips for lunch!

I met up with my family for dinner…

on the patio….with wine!

I was the first person in the gym….always a luxury!

And had a nice recovery run!

Oatmeal breakfast!

And a hike around Radnor Lake.  I get so excited when I see deer!

Monday: Labor Day!

This is how I roll….

I especially love my home on patriotic holidays!!!

I ran the Franklin Classic 10k and will have a race recap in a day or two!

Don’t forget to order your CHOOSE JOY shirt!  I’m donating 100% off the proceeds to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  There are lots of tank and t-shirt styles….here’s the Meegs Racerback Tank!

See? I think I might run if I could do it after coffee :-) all I can think about after coffee is how much I need to pee!!:)

    • JenChoosesJoy

I start drinking my coffee at least an hour before I run, because I pee like 5 times!

  • Sarah @ SarahRuns26

I did a 16 mile long run and a five mile run yesterday. Good weekend of running! We watched a bunch of movies, which was just what I needed! Peak – seeing my best friend this weekend. Pit – it was 104 degrees on Saturday!

    • JenChoosesJoy

      That’s some solid miles…congrats!!!

  • Jill Aldred

For Labor Day…I napped 😉 It was glorious!
I had a long run on Saturday, and it went really well until I felt seriously ill after (still learning how to fuel, I think). The run was both the peak AND the pit of the weekend 😉
    Have a great Tuesday!

    • JenChoosesJoy

At least your run went well!! I can totally relate to feeling incredible and terrible from the same run, lol!

  • Heather Davis

I did not do much, baked, moped around about my leg, ate what I baked, moped around about my leg some more. Your house is beautiful. You are killing it running, so proud. Also I mentioned you in my blog I hope you don’t mind.. check it out It is a work in progress, I need some computer wizard to help me.

    • JenChoosesJoy

I didn’t realize you were blogging again, but your baking pictures look incredible!!

  • Jamie Whittendale

Love your house – so beautiful!!! Long run of 20 as well! Can’t believe I’m already at that point of training! Hope you have a fabulous Tuesday!!

    • JenChoosesJoy

It always gets here sooner than I expect, too!!

  • Angie @ Pace with Grace Blog

Looks like you had a great weekend! Aside from running a 5k race with my husband we were busy doing house projects all weekend but was able to spend time with family and friends in the process so that was great!

    • JenChoosesJoy

I’m so glad you were able to squeeze in a little friend and family time!!

  • Gretchen Braun

Your house look beautiful :) so patriotic! I had a race this weekend and it was HOT but I got a PR so I’m super happy about it! I feel like in the fall I’m going to run my best ever..really feeling good lately.

    • JenChoosesJoy

A PR in this heat?!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!

  • Suzy Slane

Okay whoa, those are some high temps for a 20 miler. I don’t blame you for craving salt afterwards!

    • JenChoosesJoy

Those last few miles were tough!

  • Jimbo Gray

Great getting to meet you in Franklin. Great race, albeit just slightly hot and humid.

    • JenChoosesJoy

YES!! It was great meeting you, too!

  • bubblyrunner

Your home looks gorgeous! I had a humid 8 miler Saturday morning, but it was beautiful watching the sun come up! Peak: having my best friend visit! Pit: watching her leave Monday evening.

    • JenChoosesJoy

A pretty sunrise always feels like a reward for getting up way too early to run!

  • corrie

That baby deer though!! :) I am super excited for this weekend’s weather after Saturday’s run…woooof!!

    • JenChoosesJoy

I made Jason stop and watch the baby deer for way too long, lol!
P.S. We’re going to have a great run on Saturday. I’ve already decided.

  • Mary Ann

Hi! Avid reader, but first time poster. I was wondering if you ever shared your typical day “eats”… I am a vegetarian and would love to see what other similar runners eat! Your meals always look fantastic!!!!

    • JenChoosesJoy

I’ll do a day of food post…thanks for the suggestion!!!

  • casiruns

For Labor Day, we build a head board for our bed! The bedroom is finally decorated! Can’t believe it took me a year to get to the room we spend 8 hours a day in!

I had my first 12 miler this weekend. It was awesome. Training for my first half and full so every long run is a distance record for me. :)

Peak of the weekend was meeting a fellow Orlando runner! We met up this morning for a short run. Thank you to Instagram and blogging for connecting runners!

    • JenChoosesJoy

CONGRATS on your longest long run!!!!

  • AmandaM

Peak – 12 miler with friends on Saturday! Pit – Sunday I ate BAD food :(

    • JenChoosesJoy

      Congrats on a great run!

  • Melissa

*Labor Day was spent celebrating the “last day” of summer with my little girl before kindergarten starts.
    *Peak:Family time

    • JenChoosesJoy

That sounds like a great weekend!

  • Whitney

I had major dehydration after our Saturday run and unfortunately spent all day Sunday and most of Monday in bed trying to keep electrolytes and ginger ale down :( Fingers are crossed for a GREAT run this weekend!

    • JenChoosesJoy

I’m so sorry!!!! It seems like a great run always follows a bad one. :)

  • Running ‘N’ Reading

Jen, I spent most of Labor Day washing my disgusting running clothes and recovering from a race the day before; I did sleep over nine hours, so that was definitely a win! Peak was spending time with so many great running friends; the pit was definitely the weather…can we have fall now, please??? 😉 So glad you had a great time!!

  • Reese Derrenberger

I had wanted to do Rock n Roll Virginia, but we decided it was too much of a drive with 3 littles. Next year!
I often get to see deer on my bikes and runs. It’s funny cause I know if I go this area I will see them, but it’s still exciting!
