Weekend Wrap-Up

Saturday:
I know it’s a little twisted, but I love getting up early and having a leisurely cup of coffee before my long run.
IMG_7283
I paced my Fleet Feet CMM group.  Corrie and I ran 3 miles before, 17 miles with the group, and 2 miles after.  It was 26 degrees and ended in the 40’s…perfect!!
IMG_7284
Afterwards, I inhaled a bowl of steel cut oatmeal.
IMG_7285
Legs up with a knee sleeve and two calf sleeves.  Compression and gravity are my friends.
IMG_7286
My Boston Marathon packet arrived in the afternoon…the best post-long run reward!!!
IMG_7287
Even though I was worn out, we stayed up to watch KY just barely beat Notre Dame!
IMG_7288
It was SO stressful!

Sunday: Palm Sunday
IMG_7289
I really wanted to sleep in, but I got my tired butt out of the bed and into the gym for a recovery run.
IMG_7291
It was a beautiful day, so we took the pups for an afternoon walk.  Those puppy butts and tails make me so happy!

And, I wore my Choose Joy bracelet that Corrie gave me! (Caroline photobomb!)

Our first outdoor fire of the year.
IMG_7292
It was a lovely day and I was sad for it to end.

Monday:
IMG_7293
Monday Morning Miles.  Never miss a Monday!
IMG_7294
A few weeks ago I won 3rd place in the #MilesForRunnerMarx contest.  My prize, this rad hat, arrived!!
IMG_7295
Has anyone tried Kalettes?!!
IMG_7323
If brussels sprouts and kale had a baby, it would be kalettes.  I roasted them for dinner…so good!  (That sounded like I roasted a baby.  You know what I meant.)
IMG_7324
What’s your next race?  How far away is it?  Are you ready? Boston is 3 weeks away…crazy!
Do you like early mornings?
Would you try Kalettes?  Jason doesn’t like kale, but he loved these.
What did you have for dinner last night?  We had seared tofu, lemon-parmesan asparagus, and roasted kalettes.

I have serious run envy! what a fun weekend. One of my favorite things is waking up an hour earlier for a cup of coffee & relaxation!

    • http://jenchoosesjoy.com jenchoosesjoy

It’s so nice to ease into the day, even if it is crazy early!

  • http://twitter.com/TheFitFork The Fit Fork (@TheFitFork)

The kalettes are sooooo cute! Btw . . . love how your were “flying” through that long run

    • http://jenchoosesjoy.com jenchoosesjoy

It was a really fun run!

  • http://laurainlou.wordpress.com lmicklich

I also enjoy a hot cup of coffee before my mornings runs. Do you eat anything before your long runs?

    • http://jenchoosesjoy.com jenchoosesjoy

I eat a picky bar before my long runs.

      • http://laurainlou.wordpress.com lmicklich

Ah yes! Those are perfect! I have those before races on the road.

  • http://leerunsdistances.wordpress.com FLRunnerBoy

Way to get after it Jen even when you tired from the prior nights events. I’m proud of you! Love those Kentucky meme’s haha! I don’t necessarily care for mornings but I tolerate them lol. But I’m not a night owl either

    • http://jenchoosesjoy.com jenchoosesjoy

I’m a senior citizen! I like to go to sleep with the 10pm news!

      • http://leerunsdistances.wordpress.com FLRunnerBoy

Bahaha! Senior citizen lol … I think I’m right there with on the sleep with the 10pm news … but we’re getting the short end of the stick on the senior discounts ha! 😉

I am five weeks out from my next race. I can’t believe how quickly it is coming!

I like to have time to relax in the mornings, but it doesn’t happen very often since I have to be at work so early.

I can’t believe you ran 9 miles the day after a 22 miler! Way to go!

    • http://jenchoosesjoy.com jenchoosesjoy

Which race are you training for? Spring training has flown by!

  • http://thelittlegsp.com Annie at TheLittleGSP.com

What a happy post! I love how your recovery run is 9 MILES! That would be my loooong run. :-) Also, your outdoor fireplace is gorgeous. I can’t wait for outdoor fire weather… it’s still a little too chilly for that in PA but hopefully in another week or two it will be time.

I would definitely try kalettes but I don’t think that I’ve ever seen them before. Last night for dinner I had a BBQ pulled pork sandwich with potato salad and chocolate chip cookies for dessert… dinner of champions, for sure. ?

    • http://jenchoosesjoy.com jenchoosesjoy

Thank you! And, a chocolate chip cookie sounds so good right now!

Wow, your house is so beautiful! I would love to have an outdoor fireplace like that. Looks so nice and relaxing :)
My next race is actually on Saturday, but it’s just a training race for my goal race in June!
Kalettes look very interesting! I haven’t heard of them or seen then, but if I do I’ll definitely have to pick them up :)
Last night I made salmon with a rice salad. It was so good!

    • http://jenchoosesjoy.com jenchoosesjoy

I found the kalettes at whole foods. They taste pretty much like Brussels sprouts, but with ruffles!

  • http://milesandblessings.com/ milesandblessings

I do not like early mornings! But that may have to do with the fact we go to bed too late :)….unless you consider 7:30 an early morning :). I watched that game..ugh! That was close!!!! These games have been SO good!!!
Where did you find kalettes? I would love to try them!!!
I am running a half on Sat and I think I am as ready as I can be for this time in the season…I am a little worried about a large hill at mile 10.5 though :/

    • http://jenchoosesjoy.com jenchoosesjoy

I definitely have to go to bed early. I found the kalettes at whole foods. It’s always tough when there a big hill that late in the race. I’m sure you’ll have a great run!!!

  • Paria

I love the Kalettes! My next race is the Hollywood Half on 4/11/25. Running to raise money for Every Mother Counts:)

    • http://jenchoosesjoy.com jenchoosesjoy

I love EMC!!! Such a great charity to support. Have a great race!!!

  • A different Jen

I have a coffee cup that says “I don’t like morning people. Or mornings. Or people.” Actually, I just don’t like them all at the same time. I like to be up by myself early in the morning, with a cup of coffee and some quiet.

Glad you had such a great running weekend!

    • http://jenchoosesjoy.com jenchoosesjoy

It really helps to ease into the day!

  • http://crazyrunnerblog.wordpress.com joannaraines

I LOVE early mornings. It makes me feel productive for the rest of the day!

I would absolutely try those Kalette things….I love kale. and brussel sprouts. And all things green and healthy.

Last night I had a protein pancake for dinner :)

    • http://jenchoosesjoy.com jenchoosesjoy

I don’t exactly like the lack of sleep that comes with early mornings but I DO enjoy the peace and quiet! So many frigging kids around here. I notice that I’m irritable if I wake up at the same time as everyone else because it feels like I’m already behind and trying to catch up. Worst feeling ever at 6:30am. Booo.

    • http://jenchoosesjoy.com jenchoosesjoy

It definitely helps me ease into the day if I can have some “me” time first.

9 miles the day after a 22 miler is no joke! You go girl. My next race is next weekend, but it’s just a tune-up race, my next big race is Bayshore at the end of May. I love getting up early and having my coffee before everyone else gets up too :)

    • http://jenchoosesjoy.com jenchoosesjoy

I hope you have a great tune-up race and that the rest of your training goes well!!

There is just something about sitting outdoors on a warm Sunday evening that just makes everything seem right with the world! So glad you got to use your awesome fireplace.

I am with you on the early mornings. I like to wake up extra early to enjoy my coffee before rushing out the door for a run, work, etc.

    • http://jenchoosesjoy.com jenchoosesjoy

It’s so much nicer to ease into the morning. :)

As always awesome blog. I read it everyday. It is a little pick me up.

    • http://jenchoosesjoy.com jenchoosesjoy

That means so much to me…thank you!!!?

WHAT?!? Kalettes? I’ve got to find some of these! Well, my next race is on Saturday; it’s a 10K with my local running group. You definitely know that I’m a morning person and last night, for dinner, we had the Mini Salmon Cakes from the Runner’s World Cookbook; so tasty! Hope you’re having a great day, Jen!

    • http://jenchoosesjoy.com jenchoosesjoy

Have a great race this weekend!!!

Must try Kalettes… what will they think of next!? Two things: 1. your oatmeal is beautiful. You have such patience with your banana slices… 2. I have extreme fire pit jealousy!!

    • http://jenchoosesjoy.com jenchoosesjoy

      Thanks so much!!!

  • http://eathostrunstyle.blogspot.com Sun

Kalettes?? I haven’t heard of them til now but they sound wonderful! I’ll have to look next time I’m at the grocery store. Did you get them at a regular grocery store or a specialty one?

    • http://jenchoosesjoy.com jenchoosesjoy

I found them at Whole Foods:)
