Weekend Wrap-Up: Camo Edition

I met up with my Fleet Feet Fall Marathon training group for a 15 miler.  These ladies are bad*ss.  It was SOOOOO hot and they rocked it!

Obviously, running is my happy place.  :)

After the run, I picked up a pair of the new Vazee from New Balance!!  New shoes are always so exciting!

Our nephew Brett was in town for the weekend!  His request during his visit….the Bass Pro.  I’m pretty sure I was the only vegetarian in the store….lol!  I decided to play a game of find the camo which is tricky, because….camo.  (I crack myself up!)

And the grand finale: For when you want to hide from your husband…

Just look at how hot our car got in the parking lot!

Once the sun went down, we ended the night with wine by the fire on our patio…perfect!

Sunday Funday!

I usually go to the gym at an ungodly early hour on Sunday mornings.  I don’t want to miss our quality time.  Jason knew that my brain might forget that we had another car in the driveway…lol!

I had a great first run in my Vazee’s!!

I met up with the guys and we had a super yummy brunch at Kitchen Notes!  Of course I had some oatmeal…

But I also visited the BISCUIT BAR….

and had some peanut butter pie!

Did you race or run long this weekend? Share!

Peak and Pit of your weekend? Peak: Having family visit. Pit: Running in the crazy heat!

Have you tried the Vazee yet? What shoe are you currently loving?

      I’m over it, too!

  • jessie

You have the most amazing & relaxing back patio I’ve seen in such a long time. I don’t think it’s possible to ever get sick of sitting back there with a warm fire going cuddled up next to your main squeeze… oh & ingredients for s’mores :)

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

The first thing I did when they finished building the fireplace was roast marshmallows!

Glad I’m not the only one sweating to death in this heat! It was HOT in RVA this weekend! I’m impressed it cooled down enough where you guys are that you were able to sit anywhere near that fire on your patio!! :) First thoughts on the Vazee? I’m a fan of the 980s but am looking to pick up a new pair of New Balances soon!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

I’ve only run in the vazee twice, but I love the wider toe box. They also feel very light, but still have some cushion.

It is so hot in ATL too! Your patio is beautiful. I would be spending all my time out there!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

      Thanks so much!!

  • Beverly Blanton

I also had a 15 miler this weekend. Crazy hot and humid here in Southern Indiana as well.

Peak: actually getting to enjoy some pool time

Pit: Garmin acted up from all my sweat … It was done by mile 13.

Love the lights over your patio – so pretty!!

Not sure what I liked more – those biscuits or the pie. I almost licked my screen! Ha

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

Congrats on your long run!!! They’re so tough this time of year.

  • Rebecca Bell

I had to laugh at the Bass Pro pics. My hubby is a huge fisherman, and when I go there for gifts, my mind is blown!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

It’s overwhelming!! That store is huge!

  • Samantha

    Your patio is beautiful!!!!!
Also, I backed into my boyfriends car while backing out of my driveway several years ago and had to get a new bumper. it was bad. haha!
Y’all are amazing for running in this heat and humidity!!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

I was thankful for he reminder note. My brain doesn’t work well in those early morning hours and I probably would have crashed!

  • corrie

That pie looks well worth the tummy pain 😉 So does the sound of a pb&chocolate chip biscuit! And Jason is super smart to leave a note! I would have surely hit the car!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

      That pie was the bomb.com!

  • I long runned :)….15 miles too and it was HOT!!!! It took a lot out of me but I am so glad I finished!
Your patio is AMAZING!!! I love it!
I love the post it note and my husband loves Bass Pro!!! :)
I haven’t tried Vazee yet, but was thinking about it!!! I have been a pretty die hard Saucony fan forever, but I just got a pair of Brooks Launch that I LOVE!!!!!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

I was just saying to my friend this morning that I’m going to try the Launch next!

  • http://gretchruns.com Gretchen Braun

What a nice weekend! The heat arrived in Pittsburgh as well, though not nearly as much as you! I love those New Balances and have to try a new pair soon. They used to be my favorite shoe to run in! They’re so pretty too :)

Yay! Got your post in my inbox! I love the lights in your backyard…redoing mine this fall and putting those in! I need some PB pie!!

I’m so glad and I apologize again for the new site issues!!????

  • Angie @ Pace with Grace Blog

I ran a “just for fun” 10k this weekend! Shared about it on my blog this morning. Had a great time! Peak was the race and pit was not feeling well Saturday. I am currently loving my Brooks Ghost 8s. Love them for long runs! Love the color of those NB.

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

I’ve never tried the Ghost, but I think I’m going to get a pair of the Brooks Launch. Brooks shoes are new to me so I’m excited to check them out!

  • elawruns

That Biscuit Bar looks DANGEROUS!! Too many choices!
Long run on Sunday. It was better than I thought it would be. We started at 6am and tried to stay in the shade as much as possible. Saw two deer during the run! I love when that happens!
The whole weekend was great…just ended too soon :(
I’m definitely going to try the Vazee. I’m ready to add another pair of shoes to my rotation. I’ve been wearing NB 890 and 1400. New Balance always has such great colors!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

I love seeing deer on a run!!!

  • http://ultrafootpath.blogspot.com/ Melissa

-I ran 5 miles outside Saturday. I did it early (5:30) to beat the heat. But Sundays 6 miles were in an air conditioned gym :)
-Peak: Family time and my favorite pizza, Pit: the HEAT
-I am running in ON cloud running shoes. I’m in love.:)

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

We both opted for AC on Sunday!

  • http://www.thefreckledrunner.com Jackie @ The Freckled Runner

Solid weekend! Love the new kicks. I’ve never tried them out before. I’m currently LOVING Brooks Launch 2’s! Peak -> attended Burlington Brewer’s Festival for the 4th year in a row. Pit -> when they were all out of soft pretzels at the farmers market!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

I’m going to get a pair of the Launch. I’m excited to try them!

  • Laura

Hi, I recently purchased some Cocogo. Do you drink this before your run or while you are running? I have been drinking mine after my run. Which way is correct? Thanks, Laura

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

It’s just personal preference. I add mine to my handheld and drink it while I’m running. Sometimes I’ll even drink a glass before bed to help hydrate before a long run. ????

The Biscuit Bar looks amazing! Kitchen Notes is on my list next time we’re in Nashville for sure.

I ended up skipping my long run yesterday since I opted to catch up on sleep. I’ll be doing some treadmill running after work today! Do you usually track your indoor runs with your Garmin?

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

My Garmin doesn’t accurately measure indoor runs so I manually enter the workout on the Garmin connect site. :)

  • Amanda McJagger

Ok. The new blog layout is not really working well for me. Just FYI in case a lot of readers are having trouble. I’ve tried to enter the giveaway and it wouldn’t work that day.
Also, is it just me or does your fellow write his “e’s” upside down?

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

I’m so sorry to hear that! Hopefully I can continue we can improve the problems and make it better. I think his “e’s” are very sloppy capital “E’s”.

  • Jamie Whittendale

That peanut butter pie though…. you always have the BEST desserts : )

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

I definitely have a sweet tooth!

What a fun weekend, Jen! I had a long-ish run on Saturday (nine miles); y’all killed it out there! This weather is tough; way to get it done! This summer, I am REALLY loving my Kinvaras, even on longer runs; I used to reserve them for shorter/faster runs, but I think they may be rotated in on longer runs now, too. They’re just so light! Hope your Monday is going well!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

The Kinvara 5 was by far my favorite shoe!!! I hope you’re having a wonderful Monday!!!

  • http://laurainlou.wordpress.com Laura Olinger

I think that camo nightie is hilarious! I always find that store so entertaining even though I’m not interested in any of the activities they sell equipment for. I had family visit this weekend, too, but it was too hot to do much during the daytime. Getting a run in before they woke up was a good reason to get out when it was still “cool.”

  • C Jester

108 was the heat index here in TX!! I always forget how HOT it gets in the summer. I had a 10 mile run but made sure to knock that out early. I also was entertaining but I had my two nieces over. :)
    Happy Monday!

  • http://cupcakesandmiles.wordpress.com Amanda B @ Cupcakes and Miles

So, I’m curious…did Jason ever find you in your camo nightie?! Haha! Sorry, couldn’t help myself :)

Um…why doesn’t every restaurant have a biscuit bar? I’m gonna need to talk to someone about this.

Weekend peak: a nice run with friends. Weekend pit: my kitchen experiment could have been a little more pleasant.

And, I’m currently drooling over my Glycerin 12’s! My immense love for them is actually becoming a bit weird.

  • Karishma

Love your patio! Can I ask how you take the pictures of you running on the treadmill? I’m curious :)

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

Thank you! I just prop my phone up and use the Superburst App. It takes 300 burst photos that you can use as a video or a single frame.
