Weekend Wrap-Up: DC Edition

It’s Weekend Wrap-Up Time!

Jason has to work in DC this week, so I decided to tag along for a couple of days to celebrate his birthday.

But first, I squeezed in an early morning run.

Choose Joy fly-style!  I donate 100% of the profits from the CHOOSE JOY shirts and tanks to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  CLICK HERE to order yours!!!!

I came prepared with mango and magazines for the flight.

Once we got to DC, we had a great dinner at Zaytinya.

Mandatory picture by the White House on our way back to the hotel.

The Ritz surprised Jason with a birthday cake and champagne in our room!

Sunday RUNday!  I woke up with so much excitement for my friends running the Chicago Marathon!

Sending love from DC to Chicago!

The Sunrise was gorgeous!

Yes….I’m a big dork.

Y’all, this gym is in our hotel….score!!!

Brûlée Oatmeal with berries for breakfast!

And then I got to cross an item off of my bucket list…..TRAPEZE!!!
I got to take a 2 hour class at The Trapeze School of New York.  I was the only first timer in my class, so I got some quick instructions….

And was sent up the ladder.  The bar was a lot heavier than I expected and leaning off of the platform was scary!!!

For my first flight: I just had to step off, swing, and then drop.

After that, it was time hook my knees and drop my hands…

I got to do it a bunch of times!!

Safe to say that I had a blast!  (They have a photographer that climbs all over the nets and gets these fun action shots!)

We celebrated with a late brunch and mimosas!!!

Have you ever gone to trapeze school?  Would you?

What’s an item on your bucket list?  I still want to sky dive.   It terrifies me, but I want to do it at least once.

Peak and Pit of your weekend?

Who raced or ran long this weekend?  Share!!!

  • The Fit Fork

I had to come find out what that trapeze IG photo was about — how fun, I want to do this SO BAD!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

      You would LOVE it!!!!!

  • http://laurainlou.wordpress.com Laura Olinger

Ah! I think you’re so brave to try the trapeze! I would do that, since there’s a net…but sky diving scares me too much. Even rock climbing at a gym without a harness scares me lol.

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

It was super scary, but so much fun!!!!

  • cheryl

I would like to sky dive, but I won’t until the kids are on their own–and out of the house. I have done a huge zipline–so fun! Sounds like a great trip. the Brulee oatmeal looks delicious!

Zip lining is SO much fun!!!!

Trapeze looks so fun! I ran the last 7 miles of a marathon with one of my good friends who was running and had hit the wall pretty badly. She made it to the end though! Peak was seeing her finish! Pit was the 95 degree weather we had yesterday! Yuck! Where is fall!?

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

I’ll bet your friend was SOOOO thankful for you!!!
I can’t believe it was 95. Mother Nature needs to get the Fall memo!

I LOVE Zaytinya! I haven’t been there in ages though. There are no adrenaline rush activities on my bucket list, but I do want to hike Yellowstone for sure.

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

I’m with you on Yellowstone!! I’ve always wanted to visit.

  • Angie @ Pace with Grace Blog

That looks so fun! I would definitely try it! Peak of my weekend was quality time with my husband. Pit was grocery shopping when the store was a zoo! Have a great Monday!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

I’m so glad you had some QT with your husband!!!!! Happy Monday!

I LOVE so many things about this post! I love you took mango on the plane :) That is awesome the Ritz had cake and champagne for you guys. I love the DC sunrise pic – beautiful! The gym in your hotel is AMAZING!? And I would LOVE to try flying trapeze! I think I would be terrified though. And to hook your knees and drop your hands – eek! I don’t know if I could. I’m terrified of heights but I actually went skydiving a few years back. It was terrifying but fun! I never could’ve jumped on my own though. The guy I was attached to jumped so I went too! LOL.

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

Dropping my hands was the scariest part!!!
I can’t believe you had the courage to sky dive and you’re afraid of heights….SO impressive!!!

      • http://runeatsnap.com Jill @ RunEatSnap

I just get the urge to do crazy things like that! I also love to go up in observation towers of cities I visit even though they can be quite scary as well. LOL.

All start with the brûlée oatmeal…. creme brûlée is my favorite desert….so to brûlée the oatmeal is a great idea!! I have been wanting to do the trapeze school for a couple of years. They have it in Santa Monica as well…. Part of me wants to do it, part of me is terrified!!! You look like you are having a blast! Maybe this will inspire me to put fear aside.

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

I think the trapeze school in Santa Monica is the same school that I went to here!
It was really scary, but so much fun!

Trapeze school looks so fun! I used to do that kind of stuff on the playground as a kid. It would be so fun to do it on a real trapeze gym.

Bucket list: definitely sky diving!!! I’ve always wanted to. I’m not really that scared of it, though that would probably change when I’m on the plane! Lol.

Peak: going to Sea World with my whole family. We all have passes and we finally got to go together. It poured rain, but we made it fun by splashing in puddles and dancing around. Such a great memory!

Pit: dropped my iPhone and cracked the screen. Boo.

I ran a 10 miler on Sunday and my easy pace was 30 seconds faster than usual! YAY!!!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

I’m terrified to sky dive! That’s probably why I want to do it!
I LOVE that you had such a great time with your family in the rain!
And, congrats on a great run!

  • Shay @Great, Now What?

This looks so fun! And scary! And fun! Okay- I can’t make up my mind. I went sky diving a couple years ago and it was AMAZING! It definitely took my breath away!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

It was scary and fun! Kudos to you for having the courage to sky dive!!!!

  • http://www.suzyhastheruns.com Suzy Slane

Oh I’d do anything to try trapeze school and I’d do it even harder if I could sky dive. Ha ha. SO fun. I’m glad you had such a great weekend! I ran 20 miles on Saturday with 10 of them st just under 7 min/miles. YOWCH. I’m still feeling that one a bit!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

Your paces never cease to amaze me!!! You are truly an inspiration!!

  • Hannah

Trapeze looks SO fun! And you are so very beautiful in all of those photos- the joy is certainly shining through!
How in the world does brulee oatmeal happen? That looks too legit to quit and #craveable

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

The oatmeal was so good!!! I think they sprinkled sugar on top and torched it.

  • Katie Ringley

JEN!! This has to be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen!! Now I want to write trapeze on my bucket list!!!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

If you get a chance to do it, you have to give it a try!!!!

  • Sue Tate

Hope you had a great time in DC! Would have loved to have met up with you for your morning run! Nothing like the sunrise here over the monuments!! I just ordered on of your shirts! Yey! So excited and any charity for pediatric hospitals I’m all over (I’m a pediatric intensive care nurse)!! Zatinya is one of my favorite restaurants! Where in the world was that trapeze school? I would LOVE to do that!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

Thank you SOOOO much for supporting St. Jude by ordering a shirt!!!!!!! I’m in awe of you for being a pediatric intensive care nurse. I can’t imagine what it’s like to do your job, but you must have an incredible heart.
The Trapeze School was in the Navy Yard by the BlueJacket restaurant. The staff were awesome!!!

      • Sue Tate

I am totally going to have to check it out! I had no idea they were there!! So fun!

  • http://cupcakesandmiles.wordpress.com Amanda B @ Cupcakes and Miles

Holy cow! That hotel gym is amazing!

My boss actually just today surprised us all by saying he wants us (all 150 local staff members) to do a team-building exercise and has opted for skydiving to be our first activity. The idea terrifies me, but we’ll see…

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

I can’t believe your staff is going to skydive together….crazy!!!!!!

  • Beth

So great to see you in DC! I ran the Army Ten Miler on Sunday morning; perfect race day weather led to a PR!
Also, I recognize several of the items on your table from Zatinya! Eating their hummus has made it difficult for me to eat the packaged stuff now. Too bad you couldn’t join the local Fleet Feet crew for our tempo run tomorrow night!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

It has been a gorgeous weekend!!! I feel like I’m never here long enough to make a dent in my to-do list for DC.
Congrats on your Army Ten Miler!!!!!! It looked like an incredible race!

  • Regina Mcwhirter

Those trapeze pics look so great…fun and scary. Ran Long Beach Marathon on Sunday!
