Weekend Wrap-Up on a Wednesday

First, THANK YOU SO MUCH for all of your kind words about my new website!!!  I loved reading every comment, and your encouragement means the world to me! :)

Now…let’s catch up!

Saturday:

I met my Fleet Nashville Fall Marathon training group for a 14 miler!  It was a super duper hot run.  They rock!
IMG_4835.JPG

We also ran some hills…
IMG_4836.JPG

I was actually looking forward to an ice bath to cool my core.
IMG_4837.JPG

I didn’t have much of an appetite, but this acai bowl hit the spot!
IMG_4838.JPG

I received my NYC Marathon training plan from my coach Mark Hadley at Maximum Performance Running.  It’s always equal parts excitement and fear when I start a new plan.

After sweating buckets during the morning run, I was craving salt.  We headed to dinner at Two Ten Jack (a ramen house) with lots of great vegetarian options!  I had a salad, tofu appetizer, brussels sprouts, and the veggie ramen!!

As if I needed more food…we went to Khan’s Desserts (a vegan bakery) for soft serve “ice cream.”

Sunday:
IMG_4843.JPG

I sound like a broken record, but it was hot again.
IMG_4842.JPG

So a flat run with air conditioning was just what I needed!!
IMG_4844.JPG

And then I met up with Jason for a hike around Radnor Lake and the Ganier Ridge.

IMG_4845.JPG

The algae-covered turtles always make me happy! :)
IMG_4847.JPG

We had Kalamatas for lunch.  They have my favorite greek dressing and hummus!

And, ended our Sunday Funday on the Burger Up patio…cheers!

-I totally lose my appetite after a hard run. It takes about half the day to get my appetite back.
-I would stare at my ultra training plan….just trying to make sense of it all :)
Have a wonderful rest of your week!!

      Have a happy Hump Day!

  • Jamie Whittendale

I am never hungry after a long run or an especially hot run. But the next day… I want ALL THE FOOD haha. Training plans are always scary especially if it incorporates something new you haven’t done before (i.e. track work for me!). Hope you have a great day!

I’m jealous of anyone running the NYC marathon…. and I didn’t get this post in my inbox the way I usually do so saw on your IG that you had a new one….so maybe I need to re-sign up for newsletters?

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

I didn’t receive it in my mailbox either…lol! We’re switching over to Mail Chimp for distribution and I’m not sure what went wrong. I’m looking into it….sorry!!!

I usually don’t have an appetite after a harder long run and I almost never do after half or full marathon races. It usually isn’t until the night of a marathon that I am even slightly hungry, but the next day bring on ALL.THE.FOOD! :). I have had a hard time with my fuel during running too.
I have always done my own training plans and I kind of go week by week with them so I have never really thought too far ahead until this cycle. I am using a plan from the book Advanced Marathoning and yes I totally got nervous looking ahead. It is funny, I have mixed emotions. Sometimes I am super excited and can’t wait to tackle the challenge. Other days I am totally nervous and wonder if I can even do it! I re-did my website once and it wasn’t too bad. I had someone do it though and i was able to figure it out. I probably don’t use a ton of what I could use though and I pretty much only know the basics :)….I fumble my way through it.

I am definitely hungry the day after a hard run! I feel like it’s a little baby miracle every time a post goes out properly…lol! I’m not technically inclined at all!

  • Kelly B

I feel like I’m ravenous after every run…long or short! And, I just did my weekend recap yesterday. I always have good intentions for Monday morning posting but, sometimes, it just doesn’t happen!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

I’m glad I’m not the only one that gets a little behind!

  • Angie @ Pace with Grace Blog

I am never hungry following a long run/race or when running in the heat. I sometimes feel sick to my stomach actually. I stick to drinking something like Nuun or water.
I try not to look ahead on my training plans but when I have, yes absolutely I get nervous. Its nerve wracking to look out at the whole plan and wonder how its all going to come together. I try really hard just to look week-to-week and trust the training!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

YES!!! I just need to trust the training. :)

i sound like a broken record too — complaining about this HOT weather all the time. love the new blog design, btw!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

Thanks so much! I just keep reminding myself that the fall weather will feel incredible!

GAH! So hot, Jen…so hot. I just can’t breathe anymore. I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I’m actually thinking about (and looking forward to!) a treadmill run on Friday. Last weekend’s long run almost killed me, and I think I need some A/C this week before I do it again. I definitely takes a little longer for me to feel like eating after a run when it’s this hot; my nutritionist friend suggested I keep a smoothie ready and start sipping on it when I get home, while I’m stretching and getting dressed for work. That has been helpful. I have no doubt that you’re going to do SO GREAT during your training cycle for NYC – woo hoo! So exciting!!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

Thank you so much!! I love the smoothie idea.

Haha! It takes a lot for me to lose my appetite! 😉 Heat and/or long runs don’t affect it.

And yeah, I look ahead and do get nervous.

Beautiful redesign – so exciting for you! I did the same to my site (which I self-hosted from the start) and loved it. I lose my appetite after hot runs, but then it comes back extra fierce a few hours later.

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

      Thank you!!!

  • http://www.dixieruns.com Maddie @ Dixie Runs

Love the redesign! I also love every single food picture in this post. I want EVERYTHING! I can totally relate to you with the heat… North Carolina is on fire right now. I saw the high was only 90 yesterday and got excited about it. That’s how bad it is. Great job on your run as usual!!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

I keep reminding myself that the fall weather will feel incredible!!

I haven’t been able to eat much after my evening runs lately. If I get out in the morning, I can usually eat afterwards but it’s been so hot all I want is a little fruit and then I am done. Love the new design!

    • http://www.jenchoosesjoy.com JenChoosesJoy

Evening runs are brutal right now!!
